Chestnut Class Newsletter Autumn 2021
Dear Parents / Carers,
Autumn term has got off to a positive start and there are many exciting learning experiences planned!
The Year 5 Curriculum Map details the topics we will be covering- please refer to the document at the bottom of this page.
Each day the children will need:
• A healthy snack
• A water bottle with fresh water (named)
*You are more than welcome to supply your child with their own hand soap, if preferred.
In the morning, we ask the children to firstly wash their hands and put their belongings under their desks in the classroom. The daily lunch menu is displayed on the classroom wall and the daily lunch register is accessible to the children on the interactive whiteboard.
Please ensure your child arrives promptly ready to start at 8:55am.
Homework will be set again this term via. the homework grid. Your child will select at least 1 activity per week from the grid, their work is to be completed in their Home Learning book. For practical tasks, a photo of their work can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org for teacher feedback. Regular home reading is encouraged and Class Dojos (reward system) are awarded to recognise your child’s efforts.
The Chestnut Class email, is to be used for sending and receiving information related to homework, class activities and general queries. All absences and official requests must still go via. the School Office -thank you.
Weekly spellings are set on a Monday and tested each Friday. In addition to the homework and spellings set, it is important that all children learn their times tables. By the end of Year 5 they are expected to know every table to 12x12 and it is difficult to make good progress in maths without this knowledge.
PE lessons take place on Tuesday (Outdoor PE) and Friday (Indoor PE). Please send your child brings the appropriate PE kit on these days.
Forest School sessions take place each Thursday afternoon this Term. Please ensure your child has old trousers (not shorts), a long sleeved top and wellies for every session, plus a waterproof jacket and warm clothing as required. Forest School takes place in all weathers, unless it is too windy to be safe.
If you have any questions, or wish to speak to me regarding any matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school either through the class e-mail or by telephone through the school office.
