READING

 

Reading is an essential life skill and, as such, we place a very high importance on teaching children the skills and knowledge to be able to read confidently and fluently across a range of genres by the time that they leave Bentfield Primary School. We also aim to teach them the skills to understand what they are reading and make inferences in order to gain deeper understanding and more enjoyment from reading. Through our teaching of reading and provision of reading books, we aim to engender a love of reading in our pupils, which will support their progress in reading skills and knowledge while ensuring that they don’t miss out on the joy that reading can bring. It is important that pupils leave our school with the reading skills that will allow them to access learning in their future education.
