Oak Class - Year 6

Spring Overview

Harvest Festival Assembly compered by Rufus and Joshua

Year 6 Residential to PGL Bawdsey Manor- September 2023

The weather hasn’t been quite as kind to us on our second full day, but nevertheless the pupils have still managed to complete all of their activities with big smiles on their faces. This morning we took part in canoeing on the lake, and the challenge obstacle course, and then after lunch, the children have enjoyed abseiling and fencing. This evening they will be taking part in a Cluedo mystery activity. It is hard to believe that this will be our final night at Bawdsey Manor, however it has been non-stop since we arrived and there are many exhausted children who are probably ready for the return home! Before we leave tomorrow, we are looking forward to completing our last two activities which are rifle shooting and orienteering. It really has been a wonderful trip!

Oak Class have had a fantastic first full day at Bawdsey Manor and, after a ‘reasonably’ good night’s sleep have taken part in a range of activities. This morning they showed their bravery during their zip wire sessions, which they thoroughly enjoyed, as well as some excellent teamwork during their raft building activities. Although the rafts stayed in one piece, they all still managed to somehow get wet!

After lunch, each group completed a coastal walk and took turns on the exhilarating giant swing. All of this whilst dodging a few downpours! At the time of writing they have just finished dinner, and will soon be heading off to the evening disco.

Welcome Back to the New Academic Year!

Hi Everyone

Welcome back! I have attached the class newsletter and overview that was emailed earlier in the week and included a few essential reminders below.

PE and Forest School

PE lessons take place on a Monday and Friday this term. As children will now be bringing their PE kits into school to change, it is always a good idea to bring them in on a Monday and keep them in school all week. PE kits should be a plain (or Bentfield logo) white or red t-shirt and black shorts, leggings or track suit bottoms.

We will have our weekly Forest School session in the summer term. We may use the Forest School area for some outdoor learning in other areas of the curriculum during the year. I will email to inform you when this will happen so the children can bring in the correct clothing.

Homework

A new homework grid has been stuck into your child’s homework book and will be sent home with a copy of the new grid this week. Spellings are set weekly in class and can be practised at home however we cover a variety of spelling activities each morning to reinforce spelling rules and patterns as well as definitions. If you would like to practise these at home they can be accessed on SpellingFrame - your child has their own log in details. Alternatively, I have attached the statutory spelling list for Years 3/4 and 5/6 - these cover all the rules the children are required to learn.

Regular reading at home is essential to develop fluency and pace. A combination of reading alone and reading to an adult or sibling is a good idea for year 6 pupils.

It is always a good idea to revise times tables regularly to ensure that they are not forgotten.
