Oak Class - Year 6

Welcome to 6 Oak

Hi Everyone

Welcome back and Happy New Year! A few have you have emailed with some queries, so I have put together a letter which I hope answers most of them. I have also attached an overview for this half term which details the topics we will be covering in each of the subject areas.

PE and Forest School

PE lessons take place on a Thursday and Friday this term. As children will now be bringing their PE kits into school to change, it is always a good idea to bring them in on a Monday and keep them in school all week. PE kits should be a plain (or Bentfield logo) white or red t-shirt and black shorts, leggings or track suit bottoms.

We will have our weekly Forest School session in the summer term. We may use the Forest School area for some outdoor learning in other areas of the curriculum during the year. I will email to inform you when this will happen so the children can bring in the correct clothing.

Homework will be set Thursday/Friday and returned on a Tuesday (the same way as last term.) A new homework grid has been stuck into your child’s homework book if it is at school. If not, they will have been sent home with a copy of the new grid today. Spellings are set weekly in class and can be practised at home however we cover a variety of spelling activities each morning to reinforce spelling rules and patterns as well as definitions. If you would like a copy of these please let me know and I can send a copy home each week. Alternatively, I have attached the statutory spelling list for Years 5/6 - these cover all the rules the children are required to learn.

Regular reading at home is essential to develop fluency and pace. A combination of reading alone and reading to an adult or sibling is a good idea for year 6 pupils.

There has been a marked improvement in times tables knowledge in the class last term, however, it is always a good idea to revise these regularly to ensure that they are not forgotten.

Finally I have attached the Spring topic overview.
