PGL Day 1

We had a smooth journey from school and arrived at PGL Bawdsey a couple of hours after leaving. We got into our accomodation and set up our rooms to begin with. While we were doing that, unfortunately the rain started. Dinner was a choice of lasagne or sausage roll. After dinner we had some free time in our rooms or outside, dodging the rain showers. Then we went into the Manor House for our evening activity of balloon splash. We took part in games to earn points to get materials to create a protective casing for a water balloon to stop it popping when dropped. After that we headed back to the rooms to sleep ready for our day packed full of activities tomorrow.

Day 2

Day 2 began with breakfast of sausages, hash browns and beans before we got into our main activities for the day. All groups took part in trapeze, survivor (shelter building and fire lighting in the woods), abseiling and archery with some children taking a walk on the beach. Lunch in between was pizza and our evening meal was a choice of fish fingers or chicken in tomato sauce. Our evening activity was the silent disco, which turned out not to be that silent with the children singing along to a lot of the songs.

Day 3

Breakfast this morning had the same choices as yesterday but with bacon instead of sausages. Our activities were zip wire and rifle shooting in the morning followed by lunch jacket potato with beans or chilli can carne. In the afternoon. Everyone had a go on the giant swing and orienteering before dinner of chicken curry or Mac and cheese. Our evening activity was camp fire and then straight to bed for a group of very tired children!

PGL Day 4

This morning started with getting everything packed before heading to breakfast, sausages again this morning. Then we completed our final two activities of problem solving and buggy building. We then went to lunch of Bolognese or ratatouille before heading back to school on the coach. A very enjoyable, fun and action packed 4 days. I think the children and adults will sleep very well tonight!

Welcome Back to the New Academic Year!

Hi Everyone

Welcome back! I have attached the class newsletter and overview that will be emailed this week and included a few essential reminders below.

PE and Forest School

PE lessons take place on a Wednesday and Thursday this term. As children will now be bringing their PE kits into school to change, it is always a good idea to bring them in on a Monday and keep them in school all week. PE kits should be a plain (or Bentfield logo) white or red t-shirt and black shorts, leggings or track suit bottoms.

We will be having Forest School/outdoor learning sessions twice per half term - this half-term it will be the 19th September and the 10th October -I'll send an email reminder to you so the children can bring in the correct clothing.

Homework

A new homework grid has been stuck into your child’s homework book and will be sent home with a copy of the new grid. Spellings are set weekly in class and can be practised at home however we cover a variety of spelling activities each morning to reinforce spelling rules and patterns as well as definitions. If you would like to practise these at home they can be accessed on Spelling Frame - your child has their own log in details. Alternatively, I have attached the statutory spelling list for Years 3/4 and 5/6 - these cover all the rules the children are required to learn.

Regular reading at home is essential to develop fluency and pace. A combination of reading alone and reading to an adult or sibling is a good idea for year 6 pupils.

It is always a good idea to revise times tables regularly to ensure that they are not forgotten.
